Mingbai Technology Achieves New Breakthrough in Blade Lifespan with Independently Developed PVD Composite Coating Technology

Great news recently emerged from the Technology R&D Center of Mingbai Mechanical Tool Technology Co., Ltd.: after three months of intensive technical research and hundreds of process trials, the company has successfully developed a new PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) composite coating technology, which has now been applied to its high-end slitter blades and circular blades. This technological breakthrough marks a critical step for Mingbai Technology in enhancing tool wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and anti-adhesion properties, delivering more efficient and economical cutting solutions for customers in industries such as metal processing, new energy, and electronic materials.

 

As downstream industries increasingly demand higher cutting precision and efficiency, tool wear resistance and service life have become core concerns for customers. Particularly during high-speed continuous shearing of high-strength materials (such as silicon steel, stainless steel, copper foil, and aluminum foil), traditional blades often suffer from rapid wear or coating peeling, leading to frequent machine stoppages for blade changes and severely impacting production efficiency. Addressing this industry pain point, Mingbai Technology's R&D team collaborated with a materials laboratory from a well-known domestic university. Based on an in-depth analysis of tool failure mechanisms, they developed a PVD composite coating system specifically designed for precision blades.

 

The coating technology features a multi-layer structural design: a high-hardness transition layer at the bottom, a wear-resistant reinforcement layer in the middle, and a self-lubricating friction-reducing layer on the surface. The total thickness is controlled at the micron level, ensuring strong adhesion between the coating and the substrate while preventing excessive thickness from affecting edge sharpness. Tests conducted by a third-party inspection agency show that slitter blades coated with this composite system achieve a surface hardness exceeding HV3200 and a friction coefficient reduction of approximately 30%. Under identical working conditions during continuous shearing of non-oriented silicon steel sheets, the average blade lifespan is extended by over 35%, and shear burrs are controlled within 5μm, significantly outperforming industry standards.

The coating technology has now entered the small-batch trial production stage. The first batch of 50 trial-coated blade sets has been delivered to three key clients for field testing. Feedback data indicates that during high-speed slitting of lithium battery electrodes, the blade change interval for coated blades has been extended from the original 8 hours to 12 hours, reducing overall operating costs by over 20%, resulting in high customer satisfaction.
