Function of Steel Slitting Spacer
1.Controlling Slit Width:
The exact thickness of the spacer is the most critical factor in determining the final width of the slit material (e.g., steel coils, aluminum, paper).
Operators assemble a "tooling setup" of knives and spacers on the arbor, and the width of each spacer directly corresponds to the width of the material strip being cut.
2.Ensuring Cutting Accuracy:
Spacers are precision-ground to extremely tight tolerances (often within micrometers). This high precision is necessary to guarantee that the final slit strips are perfectly consistent and meet the required specifications.
3.Secure Tooling & Clamping:
Spacers fill the empty space on the arbor between the knives. This allows the entire assembly (knives, spacers, and often stripper rings) to be clamped together tightly with a lock nut.
This rigid, secure setup prevents any "axial movement" or wobble of the knives during high-speed rotation, which is essential for a clean, straight, and burr-free cut.
